Boris Johnson, 55, was taken to St Thomas Hospital in London on Sunday, 10 days after testing positive for Covid-19. He spent three nights in intensive care.

In the video that he posted on Twitter after being discharged, the Prime Minister comments that “he could have gone in any direction” and gratefully names all the hospital workers who took care of him last week, referring with special emphasis to the two nurses, Jenny from New Zealand and Luis from Portugal, who stayed by his bed for 48 hours at the most critical moments.

“It is thanks to that courage, that devotion, that duty and that love that our NHS has been unbeatable,” he said.

Downing Street said the prime minister would continue his recovery at his rural residence, Checkers.

“All of his thoughts are with those affected by this disease.”
