Our Mission

The British Hispanic Foundation is a cultural, private and non-profit foundation, based in Madrid and registered in the Registry of Foundations of the Ministry of Culture and Sports with the number 128, being its mission:

  • Promoting relations between Spaniards and British through a closer relationship between the people of the two countries.
  • Helping communities to a greater knowledge of the culture, customs and traditions of the people of the two countries.
  • Promoting cultural exchange between the two countries.

Our objectives

The objective of the British Hispanic Foundation is to foster relations between Spaniards and Britons that lead to greater rapprochement between the two peoples through greater knowledge of their cultures and integration of their people. To this end, the Foundation organizes a wide variety of activities: conferences, forums, guided visits to exhibitions, presentation of reports, concerts, lunches, conferences, social events, presentation of books.

The British Hispanic Doctorate Chair “Reina Victoria Eugenia” at the Complutense University of Madrid and the British Hispanic Forum stand out among them.

Our main activities are:

  1. The “Queen Victoria Eugenia” British Hispanic Chair of Doctoral Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid.
  2. The British Hispanic Forum
  3. Lectures, seminars, discussion lunches, book presentations, collaborative programmes between British and Spanish universities, concerts, exhibitions and social events.
  4. Publications on topics of British Hispanic interest.

Our history

The British Hispanic Foundation was founded in 1980 by Sir Roger Fry, CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) who received this distinction in 1992 from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Since its founding in 1980, the British Hispanic Foundation has helped promote relations between Spanish and British.

Its history is linked to the historical visit to Spain of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of England and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1989.
